Carl Starfelt in 'relentless' Celtic pledge as Scottish Cup Final favourite tag played down with Inverness respect

Carl Starfelt insists the Treble is too important to Celtic to risk taking Inverness Caley Thistle lightly.

The Hoops defender has his sights set on making history by claiming a record eighth clean sweep in Scottish football. And the Parkhead men will head to Hampden as the biggest favourites ever in a final – with bookies making Ange Postecoglou ’s side 10-1 ON to lift the trophy against the Championship outfit.

Starfelt was thrilled Celts roared back to form last weekend with their Flag Day 5-0 annihilation of Aberdeen on the back of three low key displays after securing the Premiership title. Inverness missed out on the Championship play-offs and have been out of action for a month. Starfelt insisted the form book and difference in divisions will mean nothing at Hampden as Celtic will need to be at their best to get the job done.

When asked how if feels to be overwhelming favourites, the Swede said: “That won’t help us on the day, we need to work hard and perform. To be fair we have tried not to look too far past. After the Aberdeen game we turned our eyes to the Cup Final.

“All our focus was to get back to a little bit where we have been all the season. Not conceding easy goals, being relentless and being a really hard team to face.

“That was our focus. We need to focus on ourselves and our game. I am sure we will do that and we will go into the cup final with a really big confidence we can win the cup.”

Starfelt admitted underlining Celtic’s domestic dominance at Hampden would be huge. The Parkhead club are chasing their fifth Treble in seven years – and seventh in their history to share the record with Rangers.

But they can go out on their own with eight this weekend and the significance is not lost on the Sweden international. Starfelt said: “To win the Treble would be very special. It is not easy.

“You can see that has not been done very often in the past that it is not an easy thing to do. It’s three trophies we need to compete in domestically so to win all of them would be a huge thing.

“I think everyone is really going to give everything to win this Cup Final and bring this Treble home. We have won two titles and have the chance to win the treble. It has been an amazing season but we just need to make sure we finish it off in a good way.”
