Carl Starfelt in 'hush hush' Celtic specialist trip in bid to get more detailed return timeframe

Celtic star Carl Starfelt made a 'hush-hush' trip to visit a specialist in London over his knee injury on Tuesday, according to a report.

The Swede has been out with the issue for over a month with Ange Postecoglou's men using the trip to Germany to face RB Leipzig as a chance to get a more detailed timescale for getting the former Rubin Kazan man back on the pitch. The Hoops hoped he could make his long-awaited return to action within the next two-three weeks - but if the specialist's report isn't positive he could face an extended period on the sidelines report the Scottish Sun.

Starfelt has established himself as a first choice under the Aussie boss Postecoglou since his arrival last season and has formed a solid partnership with Cameron Carter-Vickers. The duo played a key role in the league and cup double success last term but so far have been unable to form that same bond due to injuries.

The 27-year-old has struggled fitness wise since playing for Sweden in the Nations League in June after he suffered a hamstring injury which forced him to miss the opening games of the new Premiership season. He then suffered a knee injury against Rangers in the first Old Firm derby of the campaign and has not played since.

He's yet to feature in Celtic's Champions League journey with the Hoops battling it out with Real Madrid, Shakhtar Donetsk and RB Leipzig in a bid to reach the last 16.

One man who thinks the Hoops can reach the next stage is club hero John Hartson.

Speaking to Go Radio, he said: "Leipzig come to Celtic Park next week. We are still very much in the competition. It is in our hands.

"If we beat Leipzig and of course Shakhtar. We've got two home games to come, you know how strong Celtic are at Celtic Park. We go and win the next two and I think that takes us through, seven points.

"So there is still that positivity and opportunity to go through in second place."
