Carl Starfelt Celtic transfer 'one to watch' with EPL clubs 'following' key defender

Carl Starfelt is attracting transfer interest with English Premier League clubs following the defender, according to a report.

The Celtic stopper is a key member of Ange Postecoglou's backline alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers, with the duo striking up a real defensive partnership for the Scottish champions. The big Swede had a period on the sidelines at the beginning of the campaign with Moritz Jenz filling the gap but he's since returned and reclaimed his spot with the loanee departing the Hoops early. Yuki Kobayashi arrived in January and is on the books as is Stephen Welsh - both to back up the main pair.

Starfelt has improved his game style under Postecoglou since his move from Rubin Kazan and has featured in 20 games in all competitions so far this season including a Champions League outing against Real Madrid in the Bernabeu. He's scored twice in those games with his form catching the eye of clubs south of the border reports well respected transfer guru Fabrizio Romano. But he does state the Hoops will do all they can to keep him as he is considered an 'important player'.

He wrote on Twitter: "Celtic central defender Carl Starfelt, one to watch in the summer as Premier League clubs are following him as possible option for next window. #Celtic Scottish club will try to keep him as he's considered an important player for Celtic."

The Sweden international joined the Hoops in the summer of 2021 penning a four-year deal. He played a key role as Celtic lifted the Scottish Premiership and League Cup last season.

The Hoops are out to win both again and face Rangers in the Viaplay Cup final at the end of the month.

They are also in the quarter-final of the Scottish Cup with a tricky Tynecastle tie with Hearts to come.
