Cardinals worked out pair of pass rushers on Tuesday

Tuesday is considered tryout day in the NFL once the regular season begins.

Usually, teams are looking for potential replacements for injured players, whether it’s on the roster or practice squad. Others are where clubs are merely looking at players to have on their ready list when they might be needed.

This week, there were 20 tryouts on Tuesday and three visits and the Cardinals had two of the tryouts: edge rushers Sundiata (Sunny) Anderson and Luiji Vilain.

Vilain (6-4, 252) is a Canadian native from Ottawa and was selected in the third round of the 2021 CFL draft after playing four seasons at Michigan. However, he transferred to Wake Forest for the 2021 season during which he had 9.0 sacks and 10 tackles for loss.

Undrafted by the NFL in 2022, Vilain was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Vikings. He was waived Aug. 29, signed to the practice squad the following day and played one game after being elevated. On Oct. 25, the Panthers signed him off Minnesota’s practice squad. He played one game before suffering a knee injury and was placed on injured reserve Nov. 7 for the remainder of the season.

Vilain was waived by the Vikings on Aug. 27 in the cut to 53 players.

Anderson (6-4, 250) played 33 games at Grambling and totaled 136 tackles, 14.0 sacks and had four forced fumbles in six seasons.

Signed this year as an undrafted free agent by the Seahawks, he was cut on Aug. 27 in the roster reduction to 53 players.
