Cardinals work out LSU CB Derek Stingley Jr. at pro day

The Arizona Cardinals have some interest in top cornerback prospects in the draft. LSU held its pro day on Wednesday and all eyes were on cornerback Derek Stingley Jr.

That included the Cardinals.

According to Jim Nagy, the Senior Bowl executive director, all 32 teams were in attendance to LSU’s pro day, but the Cardinals were one of nine teams who sent defensive backs coacehs and worked out Stingley individually.

Stingley played in only three games this past season, suffering a Lis Franc injury. However, it would appear he has recovered from that because scouts timed him in the 40-yard dash in the 4.33-4.37 second range.

He is long and lanky, fast and was incredibly productive. He burst onto the scene as a freshman in 2019 and had six interceptions and 15 pass breakups.

He showed why he is a top prospect. The Cardinals don’t make their first selection in the draft until the 23rd pick so he probably will not be available. Some anticipate him being a top-10 pick.

While the Cardinals have their cornerback room seemingly set with Jeff Gladney, Byron Murphy and Marco Wilson, the fact they are quite intrigued by Stingley and Washington cornerback Trent McDuffie suggests they are still very willing to add young talent to the position.

If for some reason, Stingley drops in the first round, he would make a great addition.
