A day after it was reported that running backs coach James Saxon was facing charges of domestic battery in Indiana, the Arizona Cardinals have placed him on administrative leave.
Head coach Kliff Kingsbury told reporters of the move and the team released a statement, via the official team site.
We are aware of the incident and notified the NFL as required. The matter is currently under review pursuant to league policies. After consultation with the league office, James has been placed on paid administrative leave. We will have no further comment pending additional proceedings.”
Saxon had been participating in training camp since it opened.
He has been on the staff since 2019.
He is accused of one felony and one misdemeanor charge stemming from an incident when he allegedly pushed a woman repeatedly, including one time that made her fall down into a garage door. This allegedly occurred in from of her two children.
Saxon’s status is pending an August 2 attorney conference that could set a trial date.
