Cardinals’ J.J. Watt not expected to play in Week 1 vs. Chiefs

The Arizona Cardinals entered the weekend of their Week 1 home opener against the Kansas City Chiefs with four players listed as questionable to play. One is defensive lineman J.J. Watt.

Watt has a calf injury and did not practice all week. He is not expected to play as the Cardinals host the Chiefs Sunday afternoon, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

With 16 more games in the season following the opener, the Cardinals want to be smart with Watt.

Watt played in only seven games last season.

Not having him in the lineup will make things tougher for the Arizona defense against a potent Chiefs offense. They will have only five defensive linemen available for the game. Zach Allen, Rashard Lawrence and Leki Fotu will likely get the start, while Michael Dogbe and Jonathan Ledbetter will rotate in and out of the game.
