The Arizona Cardinals made Monti Ossenfort their new general manager this past week. They are adding a position they have not had in the front office in at least the last more than a decade.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Cardinals are hiring Detroit Lions director of college scouting Dave Sears to be Ossenfort’s assistant general manager.
Sears and Ossenfort worked together on the Houston Texans in the early 2000s.
Sears had been with the Lions since 2007, beginning as a regional scout. He had been the director of college scouting since 2019.
This raises questions about what the future is for VP of player personnel Quentin Harris and VP of pro personnel Adrian Wilson.
Both interviewed for the general manager job but were passed up for Ossenfort.
Harris had been previous general manager Steve Keim’s No. 2 man. Sears will be that for Ossenfort.
This doesn’t mean that Harris and Wilson are done in the organization, but it is certainly a change of direction, for sure.
