Cardinals claim linebacker, place special teams stud on IR, reinstate player

The Arizona Cardinals announced a trio of roster moves on Monday.

Safety Joey Blount was placed on injured reserve, ending his season. He suffered an injury to his ribs making a tackle on a punt in Week 16.

Replacing him on the roster is linebacker Vi Jones, whom the Cardinals claimed off waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Jones is the younger brother of Cardinals receiver Zay Jones. In seven games for the Bucs, the 6-foot-2, 225 pounder, had nine total tackles and two forced fumbles. Three of his tackles came on special teams. He played 55 defensive snaps and 124 on special teams.

He has been in the league since 2022, when he signed with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted rookie. He played three games for them in 2022 and spent time on their practice squad as well.

Additionally, they reinstated linebacker Markus Bailey to the practice squad. He completed a six-game suspension under the league’s performance-enhancing substances policies.
