Cardinal Becciu sentenced to 5 years in jail after embezzlement conviction in high profile Vatican City case

Cardinal Angelo Becciu has been sentenced to five-and-a-half years in prison after being found guilty on Saturday of embezzlement. 

He became the most senior Catholic Church official ever to stand trial before a Vatican criminal court and despite the conviction, he remains free as his lawyer Fabio Viglione said he would appeal.
