Cardiff servant and Wales international targeted by ambitious English club

Former Wales scrum-half Lloyd Williams has emerged as a target for English Championship club Ealing Trailfinders.

Times are tough for all four Welsh regions with shrinking playing budgets inevitably resulting in players looking for opportunities either over the border or overseas.

Cardiff have already lost Wales pair Dillon Lewis and Jarrod Evans to Harlequins, and there is a good chance Williams could follow them in waving goodbye to the Arms Park at the end of the season.

Ealing currently ply their trade in the second tier English Championship but are bankrolled by wealthy entrepreneur Mike Gooley.

Despite being denied promotion to the Gallagher Premiership, they have recently been linked with a move to the United Rugby Championship. But whatever happens they are an ambitious club, with Wales international Jonah Holmes and former Scarlets and Cardiff outside-half Steven Shingler already on their books.

Williams, 33, has played more games for Cardiff than any other player, and has been a key figure at the Arms Park for more than a decade.

The 32-cap international has been competing with incumbent Wales scrum-half Tomos Williams for the No. 9 shirt at Cardiff along with the up-and-coming Ellis Bevan.

With the wages of players set to get driven down in Wales over the next couple of seasons, many players may want to look for more lucrative opportunities out of the country.
