Cardiff Rugby have sprung to the aid of vandal-hit Llandaff RFC by offering them the use of the Arms Park.
Llandaff will be unable to use the WJEC pitch across the road from their clubhouse for the rest of the season as it has been ruined by deeply-gouged tyre tracks, with the rugby posts also being broken and pulled down ( you can read the full story here).
That’s a major blow to the club as the area is used for training and matches for all age-grades up from minis to seniors. They have described the vandals who wrecked the Llandaff Fields pitch as “brainless idiots”, with club officials expressing their deep disappointment.

But now they have received some good news with the gesture from Cardiff Rugby, who have messaged them on social media to say: “Hi guys, really sorry to see this. We obviously have a very busy schedule at the Arms Park at the moment, but we would be delighted to host you where possible. We’ll be in touch directly to see how and where we can assist.”
Responding to this, Llandaff said: “That’s amazing, thank you” while others have called the offer “terrific” and a “classy move”.
Other clubs have also got in touch to see if they can help. Clwb Rygbi Cymry Caerdydd have said: “If we can help with pitch space for the minis this Sunday please just ask” while describing the vandals as “absolute morons”. Cardiff Quins chairman Paul Driscoll has also stepped up to say they have pitches available to Llandaff, who have said that “very kind offer” is “very much appreciated”.
The indications are the damage was caused by someone joy-riding a van on the pitch. Llandaff forwards coach Daf Rees said: “They are real deep gouges from the tyres and we’re presuming they drove into the posts as well because those are down. You have to wonder about the mentality of these people. It’s just disgusting. It’s probably one of our most used pitches. So it has a pretty big knock-on effect for the whole club. It’s put a huge spanner in the works. It’s just so disappointing.”
