Cardiff Half Marathon October 2022: Everything you need to know

After a two-year hiatus, the Cardiff Half Marathon finally took place this weekend, with over 25,000 participants. The event, which was the 18th edition of the half marathon, had originally been scheduled for October 2020 but had to be postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic. You can see all the best pictures from the race here.

For those who missed out on the latest event, have no fear - a second edition of the race will take place in October. Cardiff Half Marathon has announced that the next race will take place on October 2, with entries set to open soon.

A tweet from the official Cardiff Half account on Sunday announcing the event read: "Entries will open early next week, with a limited number of discounted early bird entries available. Pre-registrations will get early access!"

Entries for the October race are set to open on March 30, with a limited number of discounted early bird entries available on a first-come, first-serve basis, according to the Cardiff Half Marathon website. Entries are expected to sell out in less than 24 hours - however, you can pre-register now to receive priority access to a 'limited number of discounted early-bird entries' before they go on sale to the general public. You can find out more about pre-registering here.

Charity spaces are already open for entry for the October 2022 event, and you can register for a wide range of different charity partners here. Welsh Distance Double spaces are also already available for those wanting to run the Cardiff Half Marathon and the ABP Newport Wales Marathon in 2022 - find out more about that here.

The October event will be part of the SuperHalfs, which includes races in Prague, Lisbon, Copenhagen, and Valencia. Finishing the race will get you a stamp in a 'SuperPassport' and count towards completing the series.

The deadline to register for the Cardiff Half Marathon is Friday, September 2. Those who want to participate must be 17 or older on the day of the event and must complete the 13.1 mile course within a cut-off time of four and a half hours.

The atmosphere for the October event will kick-off the day before on Saturday, October 1 with the Cardiff Half Junior event - a full day of activities, entertainment, and running events. The day will offer a family-focused Fun Run, a Toddler Dash aimed at children aged three and under, and a one mile Future Challengers race for athletes and competitive runners aged between eight and 17.

The Cardiff Half Marathon consists of a 13.1 mile flat course that passes the city's most iconic landmarks including Cardiff Castle, the Principality Stadium, and Cardiff Bay. This year, Kadar Omar, who fled Ehtiopia as a refugee and now lives in Birmingham, won the men's race, while 29-year-old Natasha Cockram from Cwmbran won the women's race. Sam Kolek took gold in the men’s wheelchair race and Mel Nicholls in the women’s event. You can keep up to date with news from across Cardiff by subscribing to our newsletter here.
