Cardiff Half Marathon and London Marathon 2022: The weather forecast for race day

Runners will take to the streets of Cardiff and London this weekend as marathons are held in both cities. The Cardiff Half Marathon returns to its usual October spot, just six months after the last event, while the London Marathon will also take place.

And fortunately for those braving the races, the weather looks set to be on side. In London there will be showers in the morning before shifting to drier skies as the race gets underway, and in Cardiff the most runners will have to contend with is some cloud.

The dry forecast will be a relief to runners and spectators alike, after heavy rain and strong winds are forecast to batter the UK on Friday and Saturday. A yellow weather warning for wind and rain is in place for some areas on Saturday, although this looks to be completely cleared by race day.

In Cardiff, kicking off at 10am the sold-out race will see 25,000 runners start outside Cardiff Castle before following a 13-mile route taking competitors past some of the city's famous landmarks. Road closures will be in place across the city on race day with some being put in place from Wednesday (September 28) to prepare for the big day. You can read about these here.

As well as the Cardiff event, the famous London marathon will be held at the same time, with 50,000 people including a host of professional runners putting on their running shoes to take part in the mammoth race.
