Cardiff City vs Wigan Athletic player ratings as defender has an off day and forwards fail to impact again

Ryan Allsop 5

Generally decent with his feet and had precious little to do with his hands in the first half. Spilled a couple in the second half, which led to some nervy moments.

Perry Ng 5

A couple of odd mistakes in possession early on and again in the second half, which led to a big chance for Will Keane. An off day for him, because he's been great all season.

UPDATE: Mark Hudson has been sacked as Cardiff City manager

Jack Simpson 5

Took a couple of whacks to the head in a brutal first half. Taken off at half time and that was largely the reason, one suspects.

Curtis Nelson 6

Had to deal with the aerial threat of Steven Caulker from set pieces and did so incredibly well. Won a number of headers and didn't do anything glaringly wrong.

Callum O'Dowda 6 (star man)

Tried his utmost to get forward from left back but struggled to really penetrate that left-hand side. Much better after the break and tried to take things by the scruff of the neck. He was on hand to smash home late on and it was a well-taken goal.

Ryan Wintle 5

A fairly quiet start to proceedings for the midfielder, although he did put in a lovely ball which preceded a good early chance for Harris. Didn't really grow into the game after the break, either.

Joe Ralls 5

Needed more creativity from him with Wigan sitting so deep but struggled to get City on the front foot or in behind. Pulled at half time.

Jaden Philogene 6

Had a couple of moments of trickery which looked to have carved an opening. Hit one lovely cross to Harris which was punched clear. Had a chance to shoot in the second half but overplayed it and the chance went. Played a lovely little cross for O'Dowda's goal.

Sheyi Ojo 6

Looked the most likely to create something and was tidy with the ball at his feet. At least he has a go and runs at people, which he deserves credit for. End product sometimes frustrating.

Mark Harris 4

Can never fault his endeavour but even he will admit he was untidy in possession early doors. Also fluffed his lines with a half-volleyed chance early on. Couldn't complain when he was taken off at the break.

Isaak Davies 4

Got outmuscled a little by Curtis Tilt, who rammed him into the advertising hoardings twice. Had one audacious chip tipped over the bar but should have done better with a headed chance in the first half. Moved wide after the break and hit too many poor crosses.

SUBS

Kion Etete (Harris 45) 4 - Did nothing of note after coming on.

Cedric Kipre (Simpson 45) 6 - Looked good for the most part and far more commanding than Simpson in the air.

Andy Rinomhota (Ralls 45) 5 - Added something to the City midfield after his introduction. Just couldn't play that killer pass.

Callum Robinson (Ojo 61) 6 - Played two really incisive passes in behind the defence. Needs to start next time out.

Romaine Sawyers (Davies 81) NA
