Cardiff City transfer news as Scottish side 'edging closer' to Man Utd starlet linked with Bluebirds

Here's your round-up of all the latest Cardiff City headlines for Saturday, July 2.

Dundee United 'edging closer' to Levitt deal

Dundee United boss Jack Ross says he's hopeful his side are 'edging closer' to sealing another loan swoop for Manchester United midfielder Dylan Levitt, despite alleged interest from Cardiff City.

The 21-year-old spent last season on loan with the Tangerines, and proved a big hit at Tannadice, notching six goals and earning one assist.

Cardiff and Derby County have recently been linked with moves for the Wales international. However, new boss Ross is clearly hopeful his side can win the race for his signature.

“Tony Asghar has spoken publicly about Dylan and said we have a strong desire to bring him back to the club,” said Ross.

“That process has been going on for a while now — and hopefully we are edging closer to bringing him back.

“That would be brilliant because he was hugely impressive when I came up against him [as Hibs manager] last season. I watched other games and he’s obviously a full international with Wales.

“There is a lot in his profile that fits and he’s one we’ve been working on for quite a while and hopefully we’re getting closer to it.”

Doyle closing in on Blades move

Former Cardiff City loanee Tommy Doyle is set to join Sheffield United this summer.

The 20-year-old enjoyed a hugely impressive spell on loan with the Bluebirds midway through last season, but the chances of a return to the capital have appeared slim for some time, despite Steve Morison's enthusiasm to bring him back on board.

There was a suggestion Doyle might be ready to link up with Manchester City legend Vincent Kompany, who recently took the reins at newly-relegated Burnley.

However, he now seems set for a loan move to Bramall Lane, with reports in south Yorkshire suggesting confirmation could come later today.

Mendez-Laing in Derby talks

Former Cardiff City star Nathaniel Mendez-Laing is reportedly in talks with Derby County over a possible move this summer.

The winger is a free agent after turning down a new contract at Sheffield Wednesday, but could now be poised to make a return with the Rams, following their recent takeover by David Clowes.

The Daily Telegraph claims the 30-year-old, who made 19 appearances for the Owls last season, is one of several players currently in talks with the club, along with Tom Barkhuizen, Conor Hourihane and former Wales international James Chester.

Mendez-Laing made 85 appearances for Cardiff, netting 13 goals, before departing the capital in September 2020 after failing a drug's test.

Ramsey in Juve snub

Aaron Ramsey's future has be thrown into further doubt, with current club Juventus appearing to decline to hand the Wales star a squad number for the new season.

The Wales international has been heavily-tipped to leave Turin this summer, having returned from an injury-plagued six-month loan spell with Scottish giants Rangers. Ramsey's stint at Ibrox culminated in a devastating penalty shootout miss in the Europa League final defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt at the end of the season, and he returns to Italy having made just nine starts under Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

There's already a suggestion that Juve have lost patience with the Welshman, with reports in the Italian media claiming the club are ready to cut their losses and buy Ramsey out of the final year of his contract, which in turn would make him a free agent.

At the time of writing, sources have told WalesOnline no such proposal is currently on the table, but that's not to say Juve won't still be plotting a way of severing ties, and this latest apparent snub will only further fuel the narrative that the former Arsenal man has come to the end of his time in Serie A.
