Cardiff City transfer news as Norwich City boss makes Jordan Hugill future admission and Morison makes striker pledge

Here's your round-up of all the latest Cardiff City headlines for Monday, August 22.

Hugill facing uncertain future

Norwich City boss Dean Smith says Jordan Hugill will be in the matchday squad for Tuesday's Carabao Cup clash with Bournemouth, but admits he's not sure whether the former Cardiff City loanee will be staying at Carrow Road this season.

Hugill spent the second half of last season on loan in the capital, netting four goals in 19 appearances, but has so far struggled for game time on his return to Norfolk.

Having only played 33 minutes of league football, the forward's only start has come in the Carabao Cup, sparking questions over whether he could yet be moving on again this summer, although Smith himself has remained coy on talk of a possible exit.

"We're not looking to lose any players, that's for sure," he said. "I said there might come a point in this window when players who are not playing might want to go elsewhere. We would assess that and decide whether it is the right thing to do for the football club. That’s the most important thing."

When asked specifically on Hugill's future, he added: "I don't know. Jordan will be available for the squad on Tuesday, he might go and score a hat-trick and all of a sudden he puts his name down and takes his opportunity. And that is what I want at this club."

Morison eases Bagan concerns

Steve Morison has played down any injury concerns around Joel Bagan, after the youngster was forced off with a head injury during the 2-0 Severnside derby defeat at Bristol City on Sunday.

The Republic of Ireland under-21s international was withdrawn inside the opening 10 minutes of Sunday's clash with a suspected concussion and, with Jamilu Collins already a long-term absentee, many Cardiff fans will have been within their rights to be concerned.

However, Morison has played down any fears over the youngster, stating after the game: “He is fine. He didn’t remember heading the ball so he came straight off, but he will be OK.”

Morison makes transfer pledge

Cardiff City will not be signing strikers the wrong side of 30 just to appease the masses as their forwards continue to draw blanks, Steve Morison said.

Cardiff have brought in 15 players but only one striker, an untested young forward in Kion Etete who is still getting to grips with the division and what is required. Max Watters and Mark Harris have not scored this season yet and they have had their fair share of opportunities.

But there has been a push behind the scenes to get another forward player in, however Morison believes there are no options available that fit the bill. One thing they won't be doing, though, is bringing in a veteran striker just to appease the clamour from Bluebirds supporters.

"Nothing, not a thing. Not for the want of trying or backing above. Like I've said to everyone who has asked me so far, I can't magic someone out of thin air," Morison said when asked about a striker search.

"What won't be happening is I won't be getting in a 32, 33, 34-year-old centre-forward just because it appeases everyone. It has to be the right player. Someone who will take us forward and help us progress.

"If that person doesn't arrive then people better back the people who are here because that's all we can do.

"Someone is going to have to become available for it to be possible. Because there are absolutely zero names, because everyone wants to talk about it, but no one has got a name or are bringing anything to the table!

"The recruitment team are working hard on it. But at the minute there is no one. There is no one there. I bet no one in here can give me a name. I'm not asking that to be funny. I'm being serious, everyone is saying to get someone...

"The board have been supportive on whatever we need to do and when we need to do it. Everyone has been brilliant. If there is someone on a free who hasn't had a club, they have missed 12 weeks of the season (and pre-season). It'll take them 12 weeks until they are up and running. But even then, there is no one who has jumped off the page."

Healey dealt crushing blow

Former Cardiff City striker Rhys Healey has been rocked by an ruptured cruciate knee ligament injury.

The 27-year-old, whose been a massive hit for French side Toulouse, netting 38 goals in 76 games since signing for the club two years ago.

He picked up the problem during Sunday's clash with Lorient, and now faces an extended period on the treatment table.

Taking to social media after the injury, the striker wrote: "Thank you everybody for the supporting messages it’s really hard for me take in the bad news the second time around I will now take time away from everything to concentrate on trying to get myself back in the near future and hope to be back doing what I love. See you all soon."
