Cardiff City transfer news as new signing lasts just five minutes in friendly win and Derby County target on the scoresheet

Here's your round-up of all the latest Cardiff City headlines for Saturday, July 9.

Fears over Adams injury

Cardiff City have been dealt an injury blow ahead of the new season after Ebou Adams lasted just five minutes into his Bluebirds debut.

The midfielder, who arrived from Forest Green Rovers earlier in the summer, was one of a number of new signings to be given the chance to impress during the pre-season clash with Cambridge United, but was unable to continue after picking up what looked a nasty shoulder injury.

Adams cut a crestfallen figure as he left the pitch, and was seen holding an ice pack as he made his way down the tunnel.

Boss Steve Morison was unavailable for comment after the game, so the extent of the issue isn't yet clear, but it will likely be assessed over the coming days, with Cardiff set to continue their pre-season schedule against Newport County at the Cardiff International Sports Stadium.

Cardiff see off U's

Meanwhile, on the pitch.

Cardiff City began their pre-season schedule with a hard-fought 3-2 win over Cambridge United at the Cardiff International Sports Stadium.

James Collins gave the hosts the lead after 10 minutes, before Harvey Knibbs levelled just before the break, in an opening 45 that saw new signings Andy Rinonhota, Mahlon Romeo and Jamilu Collins all handed a chance to impress.

Both sides named an entirely new XI for the second half, but Cardiff were forced into a change just five minutes after the restart when Adams, on his debut, was forced off with a suspected shoulder injury.

Max Watters then popped up moments later to restore the hosts' lead, before Joel Bagan added a third with a superb strike 12 minutes from time.

Saikou Janneh pulled one back for the visitors, but Cardiff held on.

Murphy on trial

Former Cardiff City winger Josh Murphy is on trial at Championship rivals Reading.

Murphy left the Bluebirds on a free transfer after a difficult loan spell at Preston North End last season.

Having once commanded a fee of £11m when City were in the Premier League, Murphy's career has seemingly lost its way, with his stint at Deepdale cut short due to concerns over his attitude and professionalism.

Our colleagues at BerkshireLive now claim the forward is one of several players currently on trial with the Royals.

Cardiff unveil new kit

Cardiff City have unveiled their new home kit ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

After seeing their kit deal with Adidas come to an end, this is the first strip to be produced by new supplier New Balance, who are understood to have signed a four-year deal with the Bluebirds.

The new home shirt features a thick white v-neck collar, and an embossed Bluebirds pattern, which runs through the traditional solid blue design.

The new shirt will be paired with blue shorts and blue socks for the new season, although its release date isn't yet known.

As part of the unveiling, Cardiff explained: "More information on our new kit will follow over the coming weeks, so stayed tuned via the club's website and official social media channels for further updates."

Rabbi 'close' to Rangers move

Former Cardiff City forward Rabbi Matondo is reportedly closing in on a move to Scottish giants Rangers.

According to Goal France, the winger is on the brink of a potential £2m move to Ibrox, having also received offers from Ligue 1 sides Lorient and Troyes.

Sources had already indicated to WalesOnline that Rangers were interested in making a move for the Wales international, who enjoyed a dazzling spell on loan at Cercle Brugge last season, and it now appears the Europa League finalists may now have now stepped up their efforts.
