Cardiff City transfer news as Erol Bulut reveals what to expect from new coaching team and free agent close to move

Here's your round-up of all the latest Cardiff City headlines for Wednesday, June 28.

Bulut's lowdown on coaching staff

Erol Bulut is adamant his new-look coaching team will get the best out of his Cardiff City players next season.

The Turkish boss has been overseeing the first week of pre-season training with the Bluebirds ahead of the new campaign, with City set to kick off a busy summer schedule with a pre-season friendly at home to Penybont on Saturday.

Bulut has already confirmed several members of his coaching staff, including first team assistant coaches Nikolaos Karydas and Nadir Sönmez, as well as goalkeeping coach Mario Galinović.

Now, in his first interview since the start of pre-season, he's given a brief lowdown on what to expect from them.

"I know Nikos," he told Cardiff City TV. "He was my performance coach when I was playing at Olympiakos. So I know him for so many years. He's doing his job really well as a performance coach and he's organising more what I want from him, but he knows from me what I want and he knows to bring it on the field. He's beside me.

"Mario, we've been working the last three years in Turkey. Character-wise he's a perfect person. As a goalkeeper coach, he's a really good one. He's worked at some really good clubs. Panathinaikos and also in Prague, working with the national team. He has enough experience that he can give to our goalkeepers to be better."

Cardiff to take on Cambrian and Clydach in Nathaniel MG Cup

Cardiff City will travel to Cambrian & Clydach Vale in the Nathaniel MG Cup first round.

The Bluebirds, along with rivals Swansea City, are one of two wildcard entries for this season's competition, having entered through a similar route in the 2020/21 season, where they defeated Taff's Well 2-0 in the opening round before the tournament was called off due to Covid-19.

Speaking about the club's involvement in the competition, academy manager Gavin Chesterfield said: Ultimately, what we look at across the board in the academy is the variety of playing experiences we can provide. This competition offers another type of enrichment to the players. It will be playing against senior teams in Welsh league grounds. We see this as a great opportunity to challenge our players in a different way. We are looking forward to going out there and meeting some new friends along the way.”

Discussing the summer months, Chesterfield added: “It’s been fantastic. We’ve developed a lot of new things, including a new talent strategy and a new game model of how we want to play. We’ve welcomed some new faces behind the scenes to help our players and we’re moving facilities very soon. It’s extremely busy, but all of this is extremely exciting stuff.”

Fixtures in this round will be played over the weekend of July 21/22

Bryan closing in on Millwall move

Joe Bryan is reportedly close to sealing a move to Millwall.

The 29-year-old is a free agent this summer after leaving Fulham, and has attracted interest from several sides in England and abroad.

Sources had indicated he was on the radar at Cardiff before Sabri Lamouchi's departure, while rivals Swansea were also among those believed to be monitoring his situation.

Bristol City appeared to be close to sealing a reunion with the defender, but he seemingly had a change of heart.

Now, according to The Athletic, he is on the verge of a move to The Den.
