Ramsey at Vale on day contract expires
We have reached the last day in June, a date when footballers' contracts traditionally come to an end.
Wales skipper Aaron Ramsey - linked with a move back to Cardiff this summer - is now, according to contract details on Transfermarkt, a free agent, with his deal with French club Nice ending today.
There is some suggestion the 32-year-old has made enough appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit to trigger an extension to his contract in France. Until there is clarity on that, the rumour mill will continue to turn. Intriguingly, Ramsey posted a picture on his Instagram story of him at Cardiff's Vale training base with the caption "Today's office". It is, of course, also Wales' training HQ.
Earlier this month, the former Arsenal man fanned the flames of speculation, stating he'd "love" to go back to the club he started his career with.
Asked directly if he would come back to Cardiff, he said: "One day, I'd love to go back there, but who knows when that time might be? We'll see."

Elaborating, he added: "They gave me an opportunity as a young boy and to go on and to become a professional. I'll be forever grateful for that and what they've done for me in my career. Maybe one day I'll go back and it'll mean a lot.
"I've always said that one day I'd love to go back there. I think there are a few things that need sorting out over the next few weeks, but the most important thing for me is to enjoy my time with family, and make the most important decision for us. I think there are three or four weeks now to enjoy and put the feet up. It's been a long season with the World Cup and everything sandwiched in between."
Striker linked with Bluebirds
Cardiff have been linked with the signing of Yakou Meite. The Ivory Coast international is a free agent after his contract with Reading expired. The 27-year-old also has been linked with Standard Liege in Belgium.
Cardiff have seen Sory Kaba and Connor Wickham leave south Wales following the conclusion of the 2022/23 campaign, with new boss Erol Bulut confirming in his first press conference that more firepower would be on the agenda this summer. He has Callum Robinson, Kion Etete and Max Watters at his disposal at present.
Women learn Champions League opponents
Cardiff City Women will face FC Gintra in the Champions League first qualifying round.
The Lithuanians have won their domestic league 21 times and are current champions. Iain Darbyshire’s side will compete in a mini-tournament in Group 8, hosted in Lithuania, which begins at the semi-final stage.
Should they emerge victorious, they will play either Glasgow City or Shelbourne FC in the final, with a third-place play-off also in the offing. If Cardiff make this final and see off either Glasgow or Shelbourne, they will earn a place in the second qualifying round, where two sides will compete for a place in the group stages in a two-legged tie.
The fixtures take place between September 6 and 9, 2023.
