Talks planned over Moz
Cardiff boss Steve Morison said talks will take place with the Bluebirds' hierarchy over Sean Morrison's contract at the club.
The manager was dealt a huge blow over the weekend with news that the skipper would be out for nine months with an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
With the centre-back out of contract at the end of the season, he may well have played his last game for the club he has served with such distinction.
"It's a nine-month injury and we will have to assess things as we go along," said Cardiff boss Morison.
"I am sure there will be a conversation at some point with the board about what we do because obviously he has been a big servant for the football club."
Morrison's injury brings back horrible memories of Joe Bennett almost a year ago, when his Cardiff career was ended by an ACL injury he sustained against Derby County.
As things stand no fewer than 10 senior Cardiff players see their contracts expire in June, Morrison among them.
Denham's delight
Defeat at Anfield was no disgrace for Cardiff's young guns, and arguably the standout performance was from Oliver Denham.
The centre-back was making his first-team bow for the Bluebirds against none other than Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool.
Despite a shaky start, the youngster grew into the game and emerged with his reputation enhanced.
"I thought that as a team, in the first half, we really dug in deep," he said. "We didn't let them score, and we really showed a lot of team spirit.
"We tried to replicate that in the second half with a bit more expansiveness. It's just unlucky to concede those goals. They weren't too special, and we could have stopped them.
"We know that Liverpool have top class players, and we knew what qualities they have. We just had to deal with them in the way that we know we can, and try to stop them."
In light of Morrison's prolonged absence, Denham could well find himself in first-team contention for the final stretch of the season.
Morison is blessed with central defenders but Denham has certainly given his manager food for thought.
"It's been brilliant from the moment I came," the teenager added. "The staff and the players have all helped me come into the team, and I think the season has gone well.
"I've been playing a lot in the under-23 team, doing what I know I can do well, to try and impress the manager. I knew that my chance would come. It's really unlucky that Mozza has got injured, but it's given me that opportunity today.
"It's all about taking the chances like today, and giving the manager something to think about for the next games. The Saturday-Tuesday schedule is going to be tough, so I just hope I can help the team whenever I'm needed."
"Ollie Denham has come through that game and he looked like a Rolls Royce - he's cruised it," Morison said up on Merseyside.
"He isn't going to have much tougher opponents than he has had today. He has now put himself right in the mix with the other defenders going forward."
Cardiff appoint new academy chief
Cardiff have appointed Dane Facey as their new head of academy coaching.
Facey takes the role after previously serving as the club's lead youth development phase coach, and his is one of four new appointments in the academy set-up.
Ben Clarke has been handed the role of head of academy recruitment, while James Wood is the club's new assistant academy goalkeeping coach.
Brais Fernandez has taken the role of academy physiotherapist.
Speaking about his new role, Facey said: “I’m extremely humbled and proud to be given the opportunity in this new role, to continue to support a tremendously dedicated and talented team of staff across the academy, in enhancing our programme for aspiring young talents to flourish in our pathway.
“The most recent progression of many of our young players into our first-team squad, along with the trust shown in Steve Morison and Tom Ramasut in leading the club forward this season, highlights the importance of an aligned pathway both for talented players and staff in the future.”
