Cardiff City's Mark McGuinness is set to join Sheffield Wednesday on loan.
The centre-back joined the Bluebirds in the summer of 2021, signing a three-year contract under Mick McCarthy's watch.
This summer, though, Cardiff have developed some serious strength in depth at central defence, with Jack Simpson and Cedric Kipre joining the ranks which already boasted Perry Ng, Oliver Denham and Curtis Nelson.
McGuinness has evidently slipped down the pecking order, having not featured in one matchday squad in the Championship so far this term and only made the bench in the Carabao Cup defeat to Portsmouth last week.
At 21, the choice of being either fifth or sixth central defender or playing week in, week out albeit at a lower level appears an obvious one.
McGuinness performed admirably under Morison during the second half of last season but there was also a mistake or two along the way, and the arrivals of Simpson and Kipre especially has altered the picture for him in south Wales.
He now looks set to spend the 2022/23 season with League One outfit Wednesday, who are managed by Darren Moore. The Owls sit eighth in the table after four games.
