Cardiff City have announced the capture of West Brom striker Callum Robinson in a deal believed to be worth £1.5m.
The Bluebirds have taken their total number of summer signings up to 17 with the arrival of the Republic of Ireland international, who joins on a three-year deal.
The 27-year-old, who can play out wide or up front, will add competition to an area of the squad which desperately needs it following a lack of goals from the Bluebirds at the start of the campaign.
Robinson comes with some solid pedigree, having scored six goals at Premier League level and, crucially, 42 in the Championship – that's more than the rest of the Bluebirds' four other strikers combined. He also has seven goals in 29 international appearances for the Republic of Ireland.
“I’m buzzing," Robinson said after signing. "It’s another adventure for me and a challenge I’m looking forward to. I can’t wait to meet the boys and the staff.
“I spoke with the gaffer and I saw the match against West Brom - and City love playing football. That is me to a tee. I love scoring goals and assisting. It’s what I’ve done most of my career. I’m hoping I can do plenty more of that here and to help this team.”
Steve Morison said he would only sign a striker if it was the right fit following a summer overhaul which has seen the Bluebirds' squad change drastically in both style and personnel.
And the striker, who stands at 5ft 8ins, certainly appears to fit the mould, with Cardiff's recruitment strategy having been built on creating a far more mobile and speedy squad.
“I’m delighted to have Callum on board," Morison said of his 17th capture. "He’s a very talented player, and he can play anywhere across the forward line.
“He’s coming in to help the squad, and I’m really looking forward to working with him. I’d like to thank Tan Sri Vincent Tan and Ken Choo for their support in bringing Callum to the club.”
