Cardiff City poised to sign former Reading striker Yakou Meite

Cardiff City are poised to sign former Reading striker Yakou Meite.

The Bluebirds have already announced the signings of Ike Ugbo and Dimitrios Goutas this week and Erol Bulut is poised to make Meite his third capture, we understand.

Bulut was intent on adding firepower to City's frontline this summer after the club finished the Championship's second-lowest goalscorers last season.

And it is evident the new manager has been clear with his transfer vision, with a second striker set to be unveiled in the coming 24 to 48 hours. Meite's medical is set to take place tomorrow.

The signing of Meite, who is a free agent after leaving relegated Reading this summer, would see him join the likes of Kion Etete, Callum Robinson, Isaak Davies and, of course, Ugbo as the club's recognised senior striker options.

We reported last week that transfer business was due to ramp up and that has been the case, with Meite set to become Bulut's third addition in a week.

The Ivory Coast international, 27, was reared in the Paris Saint-Germain academy and made one Ligue 1 appearance before moving to Reading in 2016.

Meite hit double figures in the Championship for three successive seasons between 2018 and 2021. He subsequently suffered a cruciate ligament rupture which kept him out for almost seven months the following campaign.

He scored four goals for the Royals last term as they failed to stave off relegation to League One.
