Cardiff City player ratings vs Stoke City as defender looks off colour but substitutes change the game

Ryan Allsop 6

Couldn't do anything about the goals and his distribution out to the flanks was generally decent. Not much you can hold against him.

Mahlon Romeo 6

An up-and-down start, but really grew into it. Did a lot of things right but that end product was lacking in the first half. Much better after the break, including the important cross for Robinson's goal.

Perry Ng 7

Him and Romeo were generally quite tight on the right-hand side. The strikers didn't get much joy out of him. Made a crucial tackle on Tariqe Fosu late on.

Cedric Kipre 4

Was a very lucky boy to get away with two big penalty claims after heavy challenges on Liam Delap. Just looked off colour a little, which is very unlike him, to be fair.

Niels Nkounkou 5

Saw the best of him with a stunning pass which led to Wintle's goal. Afforded Tyrese Campbell a little too much space for their opener.

Ryan Wintle 7

Struck the ball brilliantly from 20 yards to open the scoring and was generally neat and tidy with the ball at his feet.

Joe Ralls 6

Played the odd decent pass but too often just hooked the ball around the corner into a general area in hope of a forward latching on. Made one goal-saving tackle, too.

Andy Rinomhota 6

As ever, you couldn't really pick up anything he did brilliantly or awfully. Made a couple of strong challenges.

Callum O'Dowda 5

Had one really hairy moment early on when he lost the ball to Campbell in his own box. Didn't quite show what he was capable of.

Callum Robinson 6

Nothing really came off for him in the first half. His touch let him down and he was shrugged off the ball too often. But he always seems to be in the right spot and took his goal well.

Gavin Whyte 6

Another who did well for Wintle's goal, cutting the ball back to assist him, but then allowed Josh Tymon to cut inside and provide the assist for Campbell for Stoke's first.

Subs

Kion Etete (Rinomhota 57) 8 (star man) - What an impact. Completely changed the complexion of Cardiff's attack. Crucial in the build-up to Robinson's goal and had one excellent header saved brilliantly by Jack Bonham.

Mark Harris (Nkounkou 57) 8 - Like Etete, Harris looked so lively off the bench. He ran directly at defenders and linked up play well, sending in a few good crosses, too. Had a good header saved late on.

Romaine Sawyers (Ralls 57) 5 - Didn't have the impact of the above duo. Lost possession a couple of times in dangerous areas. Just looks a little out of sorts at the moment.

Rubin Colwill (Whyte 87) NA
