Cardiff City sack manager Steve Morison

Cardiff City have parted company with manager Steve Morison in a bombshell move on Sunday.

The decision comes with the Bluebird struggling near the foot of the table following the disappointing 1-0 loss at Huddersfield Town. You can follow live updates here.

A Cardiff statement reads: "We’d like to thank Steve for his efforts during his time at Cardiff City, stabilising the first team last season and helping to evolve our squad in line with the club’s philosophy this summer. We wish him the best for the future.

"Mark Hudson will oversee first team affairs at this time, assisted by Tom Ramasut, whilst the Club considers options for the position."

Morison was tasked with a huge squad overhaul this summer, which he did successfully, but needed to back it up with results on the field of play.

The Bluebirds won their Championship opener at home to Norwich, but have only won two games since and languishing near the foot of the table will not have pleased owner Vincent Tan.

Morison's refusal to give Rubin Colwill his head will also have annoyed many fans. The home-grown youngster is perhaps Cardiff's most gifted player, yet despite the team's chronic lack of creativity in the final third Morison has only used perhaps his best player in fits and starts.

Saturday's defeat away to Huddersfield was the fifth time in 10 league games that the Bluebirds failed to score.
