Interim Bluebirds boss Mark Hudson is now the bookies' favourite to become the next permanent manager of Cardiff City.
The news comes amid suggestions the former Bluebirds skipper will be given a chance to impress the Bluebirds' hierarchy over the next few games, as Vincent Tan decides on the club's next move.
Tan decided to axe previous boss Steve Morison on Sunday, following a patchy run of results which has left the Bluebirds sitting 18th in the Championship table after 10 games, and attention has now turned to appointing a successor.

The decision to dismiss Morison sparked shock and even some condemnation among Bluebirds fans, who believe he was deserving of more time to get it right in the Welsh capital, having overseen a mass upheaval which resulted in 17 players coming in through the door.
Hudson, Morison's deputy, now looks to be the front-runner to take over on a permanent basis and is currently priced at 7/4, while Sol Bamba, who was briefly considered for the role after Neil Warnock's departure, is another name in the frame at 7/1, the same odds as previous favourite Nathan Jones. Sean Dyche has seen his odds drift dramatically, but the likes of Craig Bellamy and Scott Parker have seemingly gained more traction.
Confirming Morison's departure in a short statement, the club said: "Cardiff City Football Club can confirm that first-team manager Steve Morison has been relieved of his duties. We’d like to thank Steve for his efforts during his time at Cardiff City, stabilising the first team last season and helping to evolve our squad in line with the club’s philosophy this summer. We wish him the best for the future. Mark Hudson will oversee first-team affairs at this time, assisted by Tom Ramasut, whilst the club considers options for the position."
