Cardiff City news as youngsters' contracts discussed and legend tells club to get over Swansea City hurt in survival bid

Here are your Cardiff City headlines for Thursday, April 6.

Lamouchi has spoken about contracts of 'future talents'

Cardiff manager Sabri Lamouchi used the international break to discuss young players' contracts but admitted first-team players' futures will be resolved further down the line.

Cardiff see Mark Harris, Connor Wickham, Gavin Whyte, Tom Sang, Joel Bagan, Eli King and Kieron Evans head out of contract in June. Harris this week said he had heard nothing regarding his future.

And Lamouchi said focus is now only on fighting to consolidate their Championship status, only then can a decision be made on who is offered new deals.

"Honestly, by my responsibility, I tried to do my best with the young ones and the future talent of the club," Lamouchi said when asked if he discussed out-of-contract players in the recent international break.

"But about the first team, we have to focus on our game because we are not where we want to be and to be out of this situation we have to fight and focus on that and only that."

Gabbidon: Cardiff cannot let Swans defeat affect them

Cardiff City legend Danny Gabbidon has warned Bluebirds players that the painful South Wales derby defeat by Swansea City last week cannot affect their survival bid.

The manner of the defeat, a 99th-minute winner from Ben Cabango, made the loss that much harder to take, of that there is no doubt. However, with eight games left and their Championship status on the line, Gabbidon says they cannot take the hangover of that result into the relegation six-pointer against Blackpool on Good Friday.

"From a Cardiff perspective, they cannot let this result affect them more than a loss against any other team now. Or it could be big trouble," Gabbidon said on BBC's EJFOF.

"We have been saying the last few weeks they are going to be OK, but it's a hammerblow to lose the game the way they did.

"The manager is going to be important now to motivate the players. He has got to motivate them off the back of this result now to make sure this doesn't carry on. They cannot afford to sulk about this result too much because they are in a perilous position.

"Blackpool away is huge."

Referee who oversaw Madine 'stamp' to be in charge tomorrow

The referee who was at the centre of a controversy during Blackpool’s last game against Cardiff City will also take charge of Friday’s game at Bloomfield Road.

Josh Smith was the man in the middle when former Bluebird Gary Madine escaped with just a booking after what appeared to be a stamp on Perry Ng in the reverse fixture.

Then Cardiff boss Mark Hudson was furious after that match, which ended 1-1, claiming the act from Madine, who flopped during his time at Cardiff, was "premeditated". Madine, of course, scored the equaliser for the Seasiders.

After that match, Hudson said “I'm disappointed with the fact the guy who scored their goal shouldn't be on the pitch.

“It's premeditated. He said it at half-time so we warned the ref. We warned the fourth official. He said it out loud that he was going to go out and do that. They were aware of it and it's clear as day. It's a stamp.”

Asked to explain further what was said by Madine at half-time, Hudson added: “[Madine] said he was going to go out and do Perry because there was a coming-together in the first half.

“He felt that was the way he wanted to go about it and he has gone out and done exactly what he said he was going to do.

“It's a stamp. It's a leg-breaker. If he gets his left planted in the floor, it's snapping his leg. I watched it from four or five different angles, but you don't need to. You can see it live.”
