Cardiff City news as youngster suffers grim blow to the head and Aston Villa loanee hailed as 'unreal' talent

Here are your Cardiff City headlines for Tuesday, April 25.

Cameron Antwi suffers horrible-looking injury

Cardiff City academy midfielder Cameron Antwi had to be removed from the under-21s' game against Barnsley in the first half after a boot connected with his head which left him prone on the ground.

Antwi, who has been in excellent form for the under-21s, went to challenge for a bouncing ball just before the half-hour mark at Cardiff City Stadium before the worrying incident took place.

Barnsley's trialist, wearing the No.5, had his eyes squarely on the ball as it bounced towards his path. Antwi saw an opportunity to nick possession high up the pitch and made a beeline to win the ball as he attempted to steal possession with a header.

The Tykes trialist, though, did not see him coming and made direct and forceful contact with Antwi, whose knees them appeared to buckle beneath him as he collapsed to the floor.

Players from both teams threw their hands to their heads as the youngster hit the ground and the Bluebirds' medical staff rushed to treat him.

As the game stopped for several minutes, there was eventually signs for some positivity as Antwi was helped to his feet and was carried off with the help of two of Cardiff's medical team. He was eventually replaced by Joel Colwill.

Kion Etete: Jaden Philogene is unreal

Cardiff striker Kion Etete has heaped praise on "unreal" talent Jaden Philogene.

Philogene has added some much-needed creativity and stardust to the Bluebirds this season and it's no surprise he is a contender for player of the season.

And it's clear his team-mates see just how good he is, too, with Etete waxing lyrical about the Aston Villa winger in the pre-match programme notes for last weekend's showdown with Stoke City, which finished 1-1.

"Jaden is an unreal player when he is 1v1," Etete said. "When you get him isolated with a defender, nine times out of 10 he is coming out on top.

"He loves coming inside off the wing and linking up with the other attackers, which suits my game, too."

Etete was speaking to the programme as he compiled his all-time XI, made up of players he has either played with or against. Philogene is one of four current Bluebirds Etete included, the others being Ryan Allsop, Mahlon Romeo and Callum Robinson.,

On Allsop, Etete said: "He's got very good technical levels for a goalkeeper. He has great composure and it can be quite hard to come by a goalkeeper who is so comfortable with the ball at his feet. His technical ability is something that surprised me when I first came here."

While with regards to Romeo, Etete added: "He's got a lot of experience at Championship level. He knows the game and he reads the game well. He never leaves himself short in any situation with an attacker. He loves a good tackle too, to be fair, and he's a great guy to have around."

And Robinson was one half of a strike pairing we thought we would have seen a lot more of this season. But both Robinson and Etete have each suffered their own injury strife, meaning their time together has been limited.

Speaking about Robinson, he said: "Robbo can do a bit of both. He's a score and a provider and I've got a lot of respect for him as a player. He's very dangerous when he gets the ball in the box, as everyone already knows. I've enjoyed playing with him this season."

Etete's all-time XI: Ryan Allsop; Mahlon Romeo, Malachi Fagan-Walcott, Fraser Horsfall, Dennis Cirkin; Jaden Philogene, Tashan Oakley-Boothe, Elliot Bonds, J'Neil Bennett; Callum Robinson, Alfie May.

Adams and Davies on target in under-21s win

Ebou Adams scored his first goal for the club as he netted a lovely 20-yard volley to open the scoring in the under-21s' 2-1 win over Barnsley this afternoon.

Around 15 minutes after Antwi had been taken off, the ball dropped to the midfielder, who was playing his second game after getting 45 minutes under his belt last week against Coventry, and he placed it brilliantly into the top corner to hand City the lead.

Unfortunately for Darren Purse's side, they relinquished that lead seconds before half time as Harrison Nejman netted for the visitors.

But another name familiar to City fans, Isaak Davies, restored the lead just after the break, latching on to a ball over the top before slotting past the Tykes' goalkeeper to make it 2-1.

Cian Ashford then rounded off the scoring to make it a fine afternoon in the Cardiff sun for the young Bluebirds as he netted to make it 3-1, wrapping up the three points in the process.

Cardiff's relegation chances

Things are delicately poised near the foot of the Championship table at present.

Cardiff, Rotherham and Huddersfield still have three games remaining, while the clubs in the bottom three, Reading, Blackpool and Wigan Athletic, only have two left. So, too, do QPR in 18th place.

Data experts FiveThirtyEight have drilled down into the numbers and have offered up the percentage chances of where Cardiff will finish in the table come the final whistle on May 8.

They state there is a four percent chance Cardiff will finish 22nd - in the drop zone - a 17 percent chance of them narrowly avoiding the drop in 21st place, a 19 percent chance of them finishing in 20th, a 25 percent chance of them finishing in 19th, while there is a 34 percent chance of them improving as far up the table as 18th.
