Cardiff City news as winger linked and Burnley reportedly include £1.7m in 'player material' for Bluebirds in bid for Tan's club

Here are your Cardiff City headlines for Sunday, May 28.

Cardiff and Pompey linked with winger

Notts County winger Aaron Nemane has been linked with interest from Cardiff City and Portsmouth.

According to The Mirror, the 25-year-old, who was reared through the Manchester City youth system, could leave Meadow Lane this summer after a season in which he scored three goals and provided six assists in 40 appearances.

County have just achieved promotion to League Two after a play-off win following an enthralling top-of-the-table battle with Wrexham this season. But The Mirror claim he has eyes on jumping into League One or the Championship.

Nemane went on loan to Rangers, Go Ahead Eagles and Belgian side Tubize while at Manchester City, before signing for Torquay United in 2019. He moved to Nottingham in 2021.

Cardiff sources today played down links with the wide man.

Burnley 'offer £1.7m in player material for Cardiff' in Kortrijk bid - reports

Further details of Burnley's bid for KV Kortrijk have come to light.

KVK is owned by Cardiff owner Vincent Tan and it is understood the Malaysian wants to sell the Belgian outfit, with Bournemouth, Newcastle United, Burnley and American investors the Kaminski Group all having been credited with an interest.

And Voetbalkrant report that the Clarets are really interested in acquiring Tan's Belgian side, claiming the Premier League-bound club have tabled an offer worth £13m (€15m) in cash, plus, interestingly, £1.7m (€2m) in "player material for Cardiff City".

The wording is quite ambiguous, so as to what that actually means is as yet to be determined. Might it mean a player or players potentially coming to Cardiff on free transfers who are worth £1.7m?

As yet unknown. But certainly something to keep an eye on.

The sale of Kortrijk really appears to be ramping up now and movement can be expected in the coming week, reports from Belgium claim.

Manager search drags on

Cardiff City's manager search risks dragging on into a third week.

The Bluebirds announced that Sabri Lamouchi would depart the club on May 16 and the club announced they were seeking a swift replacement for the Frenchman as they looked forward to a more prosperous 2023/24 campaign as opposed to the disaster of last year.

However, Tuesday will represent a fortnight since Cardiff confirmed Lamouchi's exit and no decision on a new incoming manager has been communicated.

It is understood that Cardiff have spoken to a number of prospective managers across Europe in and the US, with a shortlist having been drawn up in recent days. But as the bank holiday weekend draws to a close, we are still no closer to learning who the next man in the dugout will be.

Cardiff secured their Championship status more than a month ago with that win over Rotherham. But plans for next season, including transfers, backroom staff and pre-season, are all still in the air as every facet of the club awaits the appointment.

Many will be frustrated by how long this process is taking. Others will be pleased that Cardiff at least appear to be doing their due diligence, rather than appointing quickly from within like they did twice over the last year.

City kid keen to build on Euro experience with Cardiff

Cardiff youngster Dylan Lawlor is keen to take his experiences of playing with Wales at the Under-17s Euros into next season.

Lawlor, 17, is highly thought of at Cardiff and was one of Craig Knight's most trusted players at the Euros, becoming a key player at the heart of Wales' defence.

The centre-back was drafted into Darren Purse's Under-21s at the back end of last season and he hopes this international experience can act as a springboard next term.

“It was different to anything I’ve experienced at club level,” Lawlor said. “Especially in that opening match against Hungary. The first two matches didn’t go how we hoped they would, but I thought that we bounced back well to beat Poland, who won the group overall.

“It’s bittersweet that we beat the team that topped the group, because we feel that we could’ve been there, but that’s all part of the experience. It’s an honour to have achieved what we did.

“I had a positive end to the season playing for the U21 side for City, and along with the tournament experience I’ve now got to take it into next season!

“I’m quite vocal on the pitch, so going from playing in a match where everyone can hear my voice to then playing in front of a big crowd where you’re not heard as much was different for me. I’ll have to get used to that, but the goal now is to strive to play in front of those big crowds again. That’s the aim.”

Huddersfield wait on Warnock return

Neil Warnock will consult his family first before deciding whether he will return to the Huddersfield Town dugout next season, according to The Sun.

Warnock, 74, performed a miracle with the Terriers to help them stay in the Championship, but had to pull out of his personal tour dates recently owing to a bout of Covid.

The report adds that if Warnock opts against staying at the Yorkshire club, Huddersfield could go for Michael Duff, who will lead Barnsley in the League One play-off final against Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow.
