Here's your round-up of all the latest Cardiff City news for Wednesday, December 21.
Colwill dazzles with stunning free-kick
Rubin Colwill handed Cardiff boss Mark Hudson a timely reminder of his capabilities with a stunning free-kick for City's under-21s against Sunderland.
The 20-year-old struck just after the half-hour mark in Cardiff's Premier League Cup clash with the Wearsiders, bamboozling visiting goalkeeper Jacob Carney with a sublime set-piece effort from 30 yards.
James Crole netted a second midway through the second half to make sure of the win, with Colwill replaced 13 minutes from time by Jai Semenyo.
Colwill's season has been hampered by injury so far, although he was part of Rob Page's Wales squad for the World Cup campaign in Qatar, and came on during the latter stages of the 3-0 defeat to England.
He has since been limited to coming off the bench in the draws with Stoke City and Blackpool, and this performance will likely intensify calls for him to be handed a bigger role over the coming weeks, with Cardiff facing a crucial run of games as they bid to try and elevate themselves away from the drop zone.
When quizzed recently on whether Colwill might soon be in line for a start, Hudson said: "We have to manage the group and see what we can do with selection. He has missed a lot of football. He is someone we don’t want to risk.
"There is a plan for every individual. There is an importance on every day. The players are all driving to get on the pitch. They have got to earn the right to get in the team, everyone is trying to do that."
Davies and Morrison step up returns
Isaak Davies and Sean Morrison also continued to work their way back from respective injuries by taking their place in a strong under-21s line-up.
The pair were due to play some part in the recent postponed Premier League Cup clash with Wolves, but were given a solid run out against the Black Cats at Leckwith on Wednesday.
Morrison played the full 90 minutes, while Davies played 63 minutes before being replaced.
Speaking on the pair's situation recently, Hudson added: "They need minutes and it’s of huge importance to them. They need to get their minutes, the game situation is needed.
"It’s that contact, that unconscious bit of the game, we need to get minutes into their legs."

Tan's net worth takes hit
Vincent Tan's current net worth has almost halved from his 2016 peak. According to Forbes, the 70-year-old is now worth $905m (£744m).
He in fact lost his billionaire status in 2016, six years into his Cardiff tenure.
While clearly Tan is still a multi-multi-millionaire, it paints a pretty stark picture of his diminished wealth during his most recent years in charge of the club, a role which has seemingly become a labour of love.
Tan, however, insists he still has the vim and vigour to get City back up to the Premier League and stabilise their position in the top flight before he calls time on his reign.
Last month, in an interview with WalesOnline, he said: ""A large part of my wealth has gone to Cardiff, all my family members want me to sell ASAP. What do I tell them in response? That when when the time is right we will, but the time is not right, yet. I believe we can make this work, that I can get some of that money back.
"I'm extremely involved, we still have plans and ambition."
Cardiff v QPR ref announced
Keith Stroud is to take charge of Cardiff's clash with Queens Park Rangers on Boxing Day.
He will be assisted by Ian Cooper and Adam Crysell.
The fourth official will be David Rock.
