Hudson: We will show Swansea what we are about
Mark Hudson has come out fighting following his side's 3-0 defeat by QPR, vowing that his side will put in a performance everyone will be "proud of" against Swansea City on Sunday.
The Bluebirds are coming off the back of two successive defeats and have a poor derby record when you look at the last three seasons. But Hudson insists form goes out the window when it comes to derby day.
Cardiff have a number of important players who are a doubt for this weekend, with Perry Ng the most recent following his injury at Loftus Road. Hudson was undeterred, though, and strident in his message to supporters.
"We will muster an XI and we will go there and put a performance together we should be proud of," he said after the game.
"I don't think you can look at form going into the game. It's important to us, we have spoken about it already. We will go there on Sunday, stick together and show them what we are about."
Pundit wants red card rescinded
Former England striker turned pundit Dean Ashton believes Jack Simpson was hard done by with his sending off against QPR and believes the red card should be rescinded ahead of this weekend's South Wales derby.
Speaking on ITV's highlights show about the incident, which saw Sinclair Armstrong go down in the box under a challenge from City's centre-back, Ashton said: "Well it's not a penalty and it's not a sending off. I think Jack Simpson is so unfortunate.
"Armstrong does what he should do and tries to burst through, but then Armstrong actually throws himself across and ends up kicking Simpson. Hopefully that gets rescinded."
It's a sentiment which was shared by former Bluebirds boss Neil Warnock, too. Warnock was being paraded in front of fans at QPR, where he also won promotion to the Premier League, at half-time as he discussed his time at the west London club.
In typical Warnock fashion, he couldn't resist having a pop at the referee, saying what everyone else was already thinking. He rounded off his interview by saying: "When I see refereeing decisions like that I'm glad I retired!"
When asked by WalesOnline if Hudson would appeal the red card, Hudson said after the match: "I'll have to look into it, yeah. I've had the luxury of watching it back, I can't see how it's a red card."
Perry Ng early injury prognosis
A particularly worrying sign for Cardiff was that one of their star players, Perry Ng, was taken off at half-time after taking an injury to his leg.
The defender went down a couple of times in the first half, with one stoppage just before the break lasting about four minutes as he received treatment from the City medical team.
With Mahlon Romeo a doubt for the weekend, too, Cardiff will be sweating on the fitness of Ng, who filled in at right-back at Loftus Road.
"He gets a knock. We will have to see how that settles," Hudson said of Ng. "Sparky [Mark Harris] gets a bit of a knock. We tried to use the squad as much as we could with the subs that we made throughout the game.
"We will have to recover right and go to Sunday with full heart. Perry was a whack. He went for a challenge and got caught. I can't give any information on that now. It's so fresh so it might have swollen a bit, but we'll see what we can do going towards the game on Sunday."
Anthony Pilkington retires
Former Bluebirds forward Anthony Pilkington has announced his retirement from the game at the age of 34.
Pilkington played 111 times for the Bluebirds, the club for whom he had the most appearances across his career, scoring 23 times. He also earned promotion to the Premier League with the club in 2018.
“It all started 16 years ago after a cold Wednesday night at Gigg Lane playing non-league football against FC United for Atherton Collieries in the North West Counties Division. We won 3-0 and I scored the hat-trick that changed my life forever.”
“Today, here I am making the biggest and toughest decision of my life so far, I will be retiring from the beautiful game. I am so grateful for all of the opportunities and memories the game has given me.
“As a young boy all I ever wanted to do was play football. So to go on and play internationally for the Republic of Ireland and also in the Premier League against the best players in the world really was a dream come true!
“I would like to thank the most important people in my life. My wife Jojo; my kids Alfie and Luca; my Mum, Dad and brother. All of them have been my biggest fans throughout my entire career, through every up and down, coming to every game up and down the country. Thank you for all the sacrifices you have made to allow me to follow my dreams.”
He added: "Thank you to all the professional clubs I have had the pleasure of representing: Stockport County, Huddersfield Town, Norwich City, Cardiff City, Wigan Athletic, East Bengal and Fleetwood Town. A massive thank you to each and every fan of these clubs. I was really lucky to have a fantastic relationship with the fans at every club I had the pleasure of playing at."
McNaughton gets manager job
Bluebirds icon Kev McNaughton has been appointed co-manager of Scottish side Dundee North End FC.
In a post on Twitter, the club, who are top of the Midlands League in Scotland, wrote: "Tonight the club are proud to announce our new management team of @lewistoshney & @KevMcnaughton this is a tremendous appointment & shows the ambition of the club going forward with that said every1 at the club wishes them all the best & welcome to the club guys."
Meanwhile, Cardiff youngster Troy Perrett scored for Wales under-17s in their 2-0 win over Croatia in the under U17 Euro qualifier earlier today.
