Cardiff City news as decision made over Jack Simpson red card appeal and club told to 'get a move on' in manager appointment

Here are your Cardiff City headlines for Friday, October 21.

Cardiff win Simpson red card appeal

Cardiff City have won their appeal to overturn Jack Simpson's red card decision, which means he is available for Sunday's South Wales derby.

Simpson was given his marching orders on Wednesday night at Loftus Road after he was adjudged to have brought down Sinclair Armstrong in the penalty area. However, while the penalty call by James Linington appeared questionable at first, the red card seemed even more harsh a punishment.

That decision ultimately set City on course for a heavy 3-0 defeat in west London, but at least they can take solace in the fact their feeling of wrongdoing was vindicated.

"It proves the decision was wrong in the game," Hudson said of the decision. "But it changed the game and we can’t do anything about it from now on. It’s good from them to make that decision after. It proves we knew it was wrong at the time.

"I’m not here to tell people how to do their job. It’s hurt us in the game. We have spoken about it with the players, what do you do when you feel things are going against you? Spin it in a positive light for us."

Prutton: Bluebirds must 'get a move on' and appoint a manager

Former Nottingham Forest and Leeds United midfielder turned pundit David Prutton has predicted a comfortable derby win for Swansea City and has told Cardiff to "get a move in" regarding the appointment of a new manager.

Mark Hudson has been appointed on an interim basis following the departure of Steve Morison, with no definitive time frame set for how long he would be the man in the dugout.

And Prutton believes that Cardiff must make a call soon if they are to start making a dent in this division this term.

In his latest Sky Sports column, Prutton said: “That was some response from Swansea. Bludgeoned at Burnley last weekend, two goals down against Reading in midweek, and they battled back to win 3-2. It is five wins from six now.

“From the moment Cardiff went down to 10 men and conceded that penalty you knew they didn’t have a chance at QPR.

“They need to get a move on and appoint a new manager. Hard to see much past a home win here.”

Injury update

Hudson also provided a full injury breakdown ahead of the derby clash.

He said: "Perry Ng is being monitored. We will give him as much time as he needs. He got a whack, he got to half-time which is fair play to him. We will see what the situation is before the game on Sunday. It was above the ankle, a whack on the shin, we will see what comes back with that.

"Mahlon Romeo still hasn’t been able to complete a session yet, so another one to monitor. But it’s not too bad. He is on his way back. We will have to see how he progresses in the next day or so.

"Rubin unfortunately has not been able to complete a full session. He has a protocol to get him back to the field of play and he hasn’t completed that. We’ll monitor that over the next few days. We are in constant conversations with him and the physios. He is important to us and we could do with him back."

When asked if he was worried about Colwill's potential involvement in the World Cup, Hudson replied: "No, not worried for him. We know how important he is for us and Wales. We need to make sure when he is back he doesn't break down."

Martin: I'm disappointed for Steve Morison

Swansea boss Russell Martin has expressed his disappointment over Cardiff sacking his ex team-mate Steve Morison.

The pair played together at Norwich City and Martin believes Morison implemented a lot of positive things at Cardiff before he was axed last month.

"I’m extremely disappointed for Steve, an ex-team-mate of mine," Martin said of Morison.

"He was asked to change a lot and then like so many managers recently, they just don’t get given time. I thought he did a really good job last season, keeping them up. Personally speaking for Steve, I'm disappointed for him. They can do what they want to do.

"They have some good players, they have a lot more athleticism than they did last season for sure. But the focus is on us."
