Cardiff City news as club chief thinks Sabri Lamouchi will stay and Max Watters has 'had it tough' at Barnsley

Here are your Cardiff City headlines for Wednesday, May 2.

Watters 'has had it tough' at Barnsley

Michael Duff said he was ‘really pleased’ for Max Watters after his two-goal substitute appearance for Barnsley against his former club MK Dons, despite 'having it tough' since his loan move from Cardiff back in January.

Watters scored two and assisted one in the 4-4 draw at the weekend, taking his scoring tally up to four in 18 games for the Tykes, despite featuring heavily from the bench for the most part.

But his part in the comeback from 4-1 to 4-4 on the weekend has not gone unnoticed and Barnsley boss Duff said of Watters: “Max has had it tough.

"We had a good conversation with him about where he’s at. I was really pleased for him. People forget he’s away from home, not playing every week. I was delighted he doubled his goal tally.”

Watters has one year left to run on his Cardiff deal. Quite where his future lies next season is still up in the air.

Dalman: I think Lamouchi will stay

Cardiff City chairman Mehmet Dalman believes Sabri Lamouchi will stay on as Cardiff City manager next year.

Lamouchi was brought in just days before the January transfer deadline and, after struggling to get a tune out of the squad early on, has helped to steer them to Championship safety.

All eyes have turned to next season, now, and what that looks like in terms of the coaching setup and even the playing squad, with more ins and outs expected throughout the summer window.

Speaking after the loss to Huddersfield Town on the weekend, Dalman said: "The next question is where we go from here. None of us want to go through a year like that again. It was frustrating, disappointing, extremely hard work - and I'm normally an optimist.

"What we will do is talk imminently to Sabri, ask how he sees things, listen to his feedback. He's greatly impressed us and I think he will stay. Put it this way, I've no reason to believe his thoughts on the future are any different to ours."

In a separate meeting with the Cardiff City Supporters' Trust on Sunday, Dalman also confirmed Lamouchi knew about the three-window embargo, of which they had served one, but was confident the Frenchman would be OK to navigate that.

"Mehmet Dalman considered that Sabri Lamouchi had done a good job as manager and, with his contract due to run out soon, no action had yet been taken in respect of ongoing manager arrangements but he would be speaking to Sabri soon," the Trust wrote.

"He stated that Sabri was fully aware of the current transfer embargo position but was confident that he could manage it."

Winger thanks club as decision looms

Kieron Evans has penned his thanks to National League club Torquay United after a successful personal stint in Devon.

It ultimately ended in relegation from the fifth flight for the Seagulls, but Evans was undoubtedly one of the very few bright lights for them during a poor season.

The wide man, 21, sees his Cardiff contract come to an end in June and a decision over his future is looming. Firstly, the small matter of sorting out the manager's position will have to take place before any decisions on players can be made.

There have been some instances of players returning from National League loans to impact the first team, just think Tommy Conway and Alex Scott at Bristol City in recent times, while Ollie Cooper at Swansea City was in League Two, the division above, last year and is older than Evans.

Whether his future lies at Cardiff or elsewhere is yet to be seen, but speaking about his year at Torquay, Evans said: "My time at @officialtufc has come to an end, I want to thank everyone involved within the club for making me feel welcome from the first day! I’ve loved every minute playing for this club and I’ll always be grateful for this opportunity.

"To the fans, you’ve been special all year and I thank you all for the continuous support throughout the season. I’m wishing the club all the best for the future!"
