Cardiff City hold 'outside possibility' of signing Aaron Ramsey as they prepare for Gareth Bale talks

Cardiff City have an outside chance of sealing the seemingly improbable capture of Aaron Ramsey this summer, according to reports.

On Monday it was confirmed to WalesOnline that the Bluebirds are to step up their efforts to sign fellow Wales superstar Gareth Bale, with chairman Mehmet Dalman poised to head up negotiations over a potential deal. If that deal were to be pulled off, it would be a monumental feat for the Welsh capital city club, however there is now talk they could go one further.

The Telegraph report that Cardiff have an "outside possibility" of signing the playmaker, 31, and claim he is now part of the conversation along with Bale. The report adds that Ramey's future is currently "uncertain following his mixed loan spell at Rangers" and that he is "not thought to be part of Juventus' plans next season."

It comes after reports in Italy claimed Juventus are ready to rip up Ramsey's contract in a bid to get his exorbitant £400,000-per-week wages off the bill for next season. Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport have claimed that negotiations have already started over terminating the player's contract a year early, with a severance package reportedly being thrashed out by all parties.

Whether that happens or not remains to be seen, of course, but there is certainly a cloud of mystery dangling over the player's head when it comes to where he will be playing his football next season. He, like Bale, is certain to have a number of options on the table if Juve do decide to shake hands on a severance package.

Unlike Bale, though, Ramsey has indeed played for his hometown club, it is where he rose to prominence and earned his move to Arsenal as a teenager in 2008. He also returned in 2011 on a short loan spell, too, as he worked his way back to full fitness.

While it must be stressed that, at this stage, there is nothing concrete on the table, reports state that Cardiff are simply preparing to throw their hat in the ring should he become a free agent by leaving the Turin club in the coming weeks. Ramsey has made 70 appearances for the Old Lady since joining on a free in 2019, having been plagued by injuries and falling out of favour with manager Massimiliano Allegri.

Ramsey has previously refused to rule out a return to his boyhood club, where he rose through the academy ranks before making 22 appearances for the senior team. Back in April 2020, in an Instagram Q&A with fans, Ramsey said of a return to Cardiff: “They helped me become a professional footballer. So, why not? Who knows?”

These reports come as Cardiff look to accelerate their attempts to sign Wales captain Bale. The prospect of signing the Welsh talisman took a giant leap forward after Wales secured their place at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar on Sunday night, with Dalman keen to get talks underway to see if a deal to bring the player to Cardiff is indeed viable.
