Cardiff City headlines as Norwich City man lauds 'brilliant' youngster and winger finally nearing end of nightmare

Here are your Cardiff City headlines for Tuesday, February 2022.

Hugill: Isaak Davies has been brilliant

Cardiff City's Jordan Hugill has heaped praise on his Bluebirds strike partner Isaak Davies with the duo having struck up a terrific partnership.

Hugill and Davies appear to be the ideal front pair, with the former bringing the physicality and a focal point and the latter bringing pace and relentless pressing from the front.

Hugill has scored two goals and provided one assist in his six league outings so far and has impressed the Bluebirds faithful.

The Norwich City man is clearly enjoying his time in the Welsh capital and has spoken about how easy it has been to settle in at the club.

"I'm delighted to be here, and delighted to be a part of what's going on here," Hugill told the club's website.

"That's why I chose to come to Cardiff; it's a brilliant club, and I just wanted to get my head down and start playing football again.

"It's an easy changing room to come into. I've played against a lot of the lads before, so you know of people when you play against them, but it's an easy dressing room to settle into. I think that's shown with everybody who has come in.

"I think Isaak has been brilliant, and I think the manager is rewarding him. We haven't really spoken about too much, we've just been on the pitch together, and it's worked. When you have two different types of strikers who play, you look over the course of history, it has worked, and it's no different here."

Corberan: Cardiff are a different team

Huddersfield boss Carlos Corberan believes Cardiff are a different test now to what they were during Steve Morison's first win in charge back at the start of November.

Following a draw against Stoke City and a defeat by QPR, Morison's Cardiff earned a victory courtesy of a late Kieffer Moore header to hand the interim boss his first three points in the dugout.

Now, though, more than three months on, Corberan believes Cardiff are a wholly different proposition.

"I think last time we played them we did enough good things first half to win the game and enough second half to have a better result," he said.

"But for me it was a key point from a learning point of view, and a game we used to keep growing.

"It doesn't mean we've solved everything because football is always changing.

"Cardiff are a different side now and over the past few games have achieved the same number of points as, say, Fulham."

Josh Murphy back in training

Cardiff City winger Josh Murphy is back in training with his loan club Preston North End following his nightmare injury run up at Deepdale.

Murphy has not played a game since October, cutting out a sizeable chunk of his season following his move away from the Welsh capital in the summer.

They play Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night, which will likely be too soon for him, but he could be in contention for the away clash with Coventry City on Saturday.

“Josh Murphy is training with us daily now," Lilywhites boss Ryan Lowe said.

"Tuesday will probably come too soon for him, Saturday could be possible but we have a reserve game here next week which we hope he can get some minutes in.”

Murphy has played only seven Championship games for Preston, all of which have come from the substitutes' bench.

Watters out for at least six weeks

Cardiff City striker Max Watters will be out for at least six weeks with an ankle injury, Morison has confirmed.

The Bluebirds forward challenged Oliver Denham for a header in training last Thursday, but landed awkwardly on his left foot when coming down from the aerial collision.

Watters left the training ground on crutches and in a protective boot and while that was only deemed precautionary at the time, the knock is enough to keep him out for some time.

He was ruled out of the draw with Blackpool at the weekend and Morison has confirmed it will sideline him for a number of weeks.

"Max Watters is a minimum of six weeks," Morison said.

"It’s never nice to lose a player, it’s really unfortunate how it happened. It goes with the territory. He’ll be fine, hopefully.

"Six weeks is the minimum, so we will aim for six. Let’s hope he doesn’t need surgery or anything like that."
