Cardiff City and Swansea enquire about taking Bristol City striker on loan

Cardiff and Swansea have enquired about the possibility of taking striker Nahki Wells on loan, according to reports.

The 31-year-old striker has struggled to force his way into Nigel Pearson's first-team plans this season having made just five league starts.

Wells has been utilised from the bench on 15 occasions, scoring just once in the 2-1 victory at Queens Park Rangers in September.

His last start came in the 3-0 defeat to Birmingham City having fallen behind Andi Weimann, Antoine Semenyo and Chris Martin in the pecking order.

As reported by Mike McGrath, the two Welsh clubs have made enquiries and will look to secure a move before transfer deadline day on Monday night.

Manager Pearson has previously spoken of his desire to lower the wage bill and considering Wells is regarded as one of the club's top earners, could be tempted to sanction a transfer depending on the terms of the deal.

Speaking to BBC Radio Bristol's Sounds of the City last week, Pearson said: "We are where we are, we have to have a realistic understanding of how we manage our way through this situation.

"I'm not saying we're not going to do any business categorically, what I'm saying is we have players who we may allow to leave if it allows us to do the business that we want to do bringing players in. It really is a case of it being that way round.

"The decisions that we make now can't be ones which are hit and miss, we've got to try and get things right because our squad has been too big, the wage bill has been too big."

Wells joined Bristol City in January 2020 following two loan stints with Queens Park Rangers.

He scored 10 league goals last season but has struggled to find the net in the absence of minutes this campaign and is currently contracted to the club until the summer of 2023.

Cardiff are in the market for a new striker and were hoping to sign West Brom's Jordan Hugill on loan, but the player has joined former club Norwich.
