Cardiff butchers closes its doors after 20 years due to rising costs

A family butchers in Cardiff has closed down after 19 years of business due to rising costs. Porkys Family Butchers on Countisbury Avenue in Llanrumney opened in 2004 and continued running throughout the Covid pandemic with home deliveries in the local area.

But in a post on Facebook, Porkys Family Butchers announced it would be closing its doors for the last time on Saturday, April 1: “It is with great sadness that I inform you that our family butcher, which has been open for 19 years will be closing its doors for the final time on Saturday 1st April. This decision hasn’t been an easy one but due to the increasing energy costs and wholesale prices and the reduction in footfall, we really have no choice.

“I would like to thank both my staff for their hard work and our customers for their support over the years that we have been trading. Alan and the team.” Customers flooded the Facebook post with best wishes for the future and memories of Porkys.
