Cardi B has warned fans to teach their kids about "predators" after a controversial video of the Dalai Lama went viral online.
The video shows the Dalai Lama asking a young boy to "suck his tongue" after the pose for a picture together, sparking anger from viewers who were disturbed by the leader's request.
Among the enraged viewers was the American rapper and - although she didn't explicitly mention the leader - she wrote a tweet to her 29.3million Twitter followers, urging them to "talk with your kids about boundaries."
"This world is full of predators. They prey on the innocent," Cardi typed. "The ones who are most unknowing, our children. Predators could be our neighbors, our school teachers, even people wit money ,power & our churches."
She continued: "Constantly talk with your kids about boundaries and what they shouldn’t allow people to do to them."
The Dalai Lama's team has since issued an apology statement explaining that the 87-year-old "regrets the incident."
"His Holiness wishes to apologize to the boy and his family, as well as his many friends across the world, for the hurt his words may have caused," the statement read.
"His Holiness often teases people he meets in an innocent and playful way," they added. "Even in public and before cameras. He regrets the incident."
Following the apology, Cardi sent out a slew of follow up tweets. In one, she tagged a report of the apology, writing: "Man I’m telling yall."
She then tweeted: "Wow all this support I’m getting at the same time is beautiful. It was deep in my heart to talk about this cause me & my friend was talkin last night & then the dalai lama thing happen this morning,"
Cardi went on to add that the people "attacking her" were "just projecting" after she received backlash for being the "wrong messenger" for warning fans about predators in her initial tweets.
In a video uploaded to her Instagram, she addressed her own controversial past following a 2017 statement that saw her admit to "robbing and drugging" men to "survive" before making it as a rapper.
She told fans: "Robbing and r*ping is two different type of shits, so don’t fucking call me no r*pist or predator. Don’t play with my name like that."
