Cardale Jones Hilariously Recalls Visiting Kid in Hospital, Beating Him 98–35 in Video Game

1. When you hear the name Cardale Jones, you probably think of two things: Ohio State quarterback who led the Buckeyes to a national title in 2014. And this famous tweet.

Some of you may also remember this tweet.

In one of the more creative and fantastic pieces of content I've seen lately, Pablo Torre, host of the Pablo Torre Finds Out podcast, did just that regarding Jones crushing a sick kid in a college football video game eight years ago: He found out the full story from Jones, who played for the Buckeyes from 2012 to ’15.

As Jones tells it, he met Jared Foley when he was at Ohio State. While visiting Foley in the hospital, he spotted an Xbox and told the youngster that he would kick his butt in NCAA Football 2014

Jones said that the game was close in the first quarter, and then Foley started talking trash. Jones said that he then inserted himself as quarterback. “The Cardale Jones stat line had to be one of the best stat lines in all of gaming history,” said Jones.

Jones then added, “By the time that tweet came out, it was all fun and games because I remember him challenging me to play NHL and we were going back and forth on Twitter and I’m like, ‘Jared, bro, I’m Black. I don’t play hockey. I definitely don’t play hockey video games.’”

Jones also described his special bond with Foley and even suggested a rematch in the video below, which is well worth your time.

2. A brand-new SI Media with Jimmy Traina podcast dropped this morning. The episode features a conversation with The Ringer’s sports media columnist and podcast host, Bryan Curtis.

Topics discussed include NBC’s Taylor Swift–heavy broadcast of Chiefs-Jets as well as Cris Collinsworth’s odd commentary on Zach Wilson, plus NBC’s Rodney Harrison taking a ton of heat for calling Wilson “garbage” during a postgame interview with the Chiefs’ Chris Jones.

Other items covered on the podcast: whether interest in Deion Sanders and Colorado football has peaked, why the NFL’s prime-time schedule is in big trouble, ABC getting Wednesday night NBA games, ESPN’s usage of Alex Rodriguez, the proliferation of podcasts and much more.

Following Curtis, Sal Licata from WFAN radio and SNY TV in New York joins me for our weekly “Traina Thoughts” segment. This week we discuss Sal missing an NFL Sunday to look at houses, Patrick Mahomes’s controversial slide at the end of the Chiefs-Jets game, the demise of Threads, the lack of interest in the MLB playoffs and much more.

You can listen to the podcast below or download it on Apple, Spotify and Google.

3. The Rays could barely draw 20,000 fans for their two playoff games against the Rangers this week, and ESPN’s Sean McDonough (who is a great baseball broadcaster) couldn’t help but take a shot at the poor attendance.

4. This is a beautiful rant on baseball’s analytics nonsense by Radio Hall of Famer Chris “Mad Dog” Russo.

5. It's not a shock to hear that Russell Wilson is a little odd, but some of these stories from former Seahawks teammate Marshawn Lynch are pretty damning. At the top of the list is Lynch claiming that Wilson blocked his phone number while calling the running back.

6. You absolutely must watch the reaction of Cowboys running back Tony Pollard after Dallas pulled off a fake field goal last week.
