Caravan flips on busy Scots carriageway sparking long delays as cops race to scene

A caravan has overturned on a busy dual carriageway this afternoon, blocking the road and causing massive tailbacks.

Emergency crews raced to the A737 between Kilbarchan and Johnstone shortly after 2.30pm when the vehicle tipped over.

Trunk Road Incident Support Service also attended to offer their assistance to those involved.

A photo taken at the scene shows the caravan, which is hitched to a car, flipped completely on its side.

The car it is attached to appears to have ploughed into the bollards which separate the road from the one adjacent.

The Record understands the car was attempting to overtake another vehicle when the accident occurred.

Motorists were eventually made to turn and go back up the dual carriageway the way they came.

As a result of the incident, the A737 was partially blocked northbound for around an hour, sparking queues of traffic which were said to be miles long.

Commuters were also advised to avoid the area.

The road has since reopened, according to Traffic Scotland.

It is understood no one was injured in the event.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 2.40pm on Saturday, 4 June, officers attended after receiving a report of a one-vehicle crash involving a car towing a caravan on the A737 between Johnstone and Kilbarchan.

“There were no reports of any injuries and the road reopened around 4.10pm.”
