Cara Delevingne stunned at this year’s Oscars, including the diamond Bulgari choker necklace she wore on the red carpet.
The model made her return to the red carpet at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday evening, days after revealing she’s now four months sober following a stint in rehab. The Only Murders in the Building star arrived at the 95th Academy Awards wearing a one-shoulder red gown from Elie Saab, which featured a thigh-high slit.
She paired the look with Stuart Weitzman platform heels, a sleek slicked-back bun, and eye-catching Bulgari jewellery. According toPage Six, a source has claimed that Delevingne was paid more than $241,000 (£200,000) to wear the jewellery from the luxury brand.
The diamond choker necklace worn by Delevingne featured a snake head in the center complete with an emerald eye. Her matching diamond earrings also included a small emerald stud. As for her makeup, Delevingne opted for a soft glam look, which she achieved using $7 false lashes.
Speaking to InTheKnow, Delevingne’s makeup artist Hung Vanngo revealed he used Ardell Knot-Free Individuals for the model-turned-actor’s dramatic lashes. “For the Oscars 2023 look for Cara, we want to create a modern-classic, timeless movie star look,” he recently told the outlet. “I created a monochrome makeup look with natural but full-fluttered lashes. I used knot-free individuals in short for the inner half of the eyes and medium knot-free individuals for the outer half. I also used a few short and medium singles throughout to create more dimension to complete the look.”
Meanwhile, her hairstylist Danielle Priano told Marie Claire that they “wanted to channel true movie star energy” for Delevingne’s first-ever Oscars.
The 2023 Oscars marked Cara Delevingne’s first public appearance since revealing in an interview with Vogue earlier this month that she is four months sober. The Paper Towns actor was checked into rehab after paparazzi photos of her emerged last year at Van Nuys Airport in Los Angeles “looking dishevelled and distressed”.
“All I knew is if I was continuing to go down the road I was, I would either end up dead or, like, doing something really, really stupid,” she told Vogue, adding that she had decided to seek help after seeing the photos of herself and realising that she was in a “bad place.”
“I hadn’t slept. I was not okay,” she said about the pictures, which were taken as she was returning home from Burning Man. “It’s heartbreaking because I thought I was having fun, but at some point it was like, ‘Okay, I don’t look well.’”
After the paparazzi photos surfaced, Delevingne shared that many of her childhood friends reached out to her, but she struggled to let them help her. “They ride for me and I love my friends so much, but it felt like a lot of the time, they were shallow relationships only because I wasn’t able to be honest about the things I was going through,” she said. “I didn’t want to burden anyone. It was also like, What if people leave? If you ask any of my friends, they would say they’d never seen me cry.”
By September 2022, Delevingne realised that she needed the support of her friends, and started to reach out to those she’s known “since I was 13”.
She added: “You know, sometimes you need a reality check, so in a way those pictures were something to be grateful for.”
The model revealed that when she checked herself into a mental health facility towards the end of 2022, it was her first time seeing a therapist in “three years”, before confessing that she had a lot of “work” to do to get sober.
“I just kind of pushed everyone away, which made me realise how much I was in a bad place,” Delevingne said. “I always thought that the work needs to be done when the times are bad, but actually the work needs to be done when they’re good. The work needs to be done consistently. It’s never going to be fixed or fully healed but I’m okay with that, and that’s the difference.”
Delevingne went on to say that committing to the 12-step program for addiction recovery was the “best thing” for her, and that she’s not “ashamed” of seeking substance abuse treatment.
