Cara Delevingne to make her stage debut as Sally Bowles in Cabaret

Cara Delevingne said there are “no words to explain the excitement” as she prepares to make her stage debut as Sally Bowles in Cabaret.

The model and actress will appear opposite Luke Treadaway who will play the Emcee - in roles first played in this production by Jessie Buckley and Eddie Redmayne.

Delevingne, whose CV includes film and TV roles from Anna Karenina to Carnival Row, takes on the part of the nightclub singer whose way of life seems set to disappear forever as avant-garde 1930s Berlin, known for its nightlife and sexual freedom, is swept away by Hitler’s rise to power.

She said: “There are no words to explain the excitement I have to return home to make my stage debut in such an iconic role. I am so inspired by the brilliant actors who have played Sally in past productions around the world and in this one in the West End. I cannot wait to be a part of this brilliant cast and production.”

Treadaway, who was nominated for Best Actor at the Standard Theatre Awards for his performance in the National Theatre’s production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, will take to the stage with Delevingne from March 11.

The musical, which had its debut in 1966 and is inspired by a play in turn based on a novel by English writer Christopher Isherwood who lived in Berlin in the 1930s, is at the West End’s Playhouse Theatre.

The venue has been transformed for the show into the KitKat Club where the production is set with audiences entering down a set of stairs and through narrow corridors before entering the club complete with musicians and dancers in costume with bars offering beer and schnapps.
