A police probe has been launched after a car was deliberately torched in a quiet residential street in East Kilbride.
The alarm was raised in Deep Dale in the Stewartfield area shortly after midnight on Friday, January 13, where an estate car parked outside bungalows was "well alight".
Police are now treating the incident as wilful fireraising.
A resident told Lanarkshire Live: "I was woken by flashing blue lights and looked out the window to see lots of white smoke billowing from what I suspected was one of the bungalows.
"It was later discovered it was our neighbour's grey estate car. We were really shocked to find out it was a deliberate act as this is such a quiet street, you never see a soul coming through here."
A fire crew was alerted to the scene at 12.10am and extinguished the blaze within the hour.
No one was injured and the burnt-out vehicle was removed.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 00.07am on Friday, January 13, to reports of a vehicle well alight fire on Deep Dale, East Kilbride.
“Operations Control mobilised one fire appliance and firefighters extinguished the fire affecting one car.
“There were no reported casualties and crews left after ensuring the area was made safe.”
This latest incident comes three months after Lanarkshire Live reported that elderly East Kilbride residents were taping up their letterboxes in fear after two cars were firebombed in the same street just days apart.
The incidents, in Newlandsmuir last October, came to light after Lanarkshire Live reported on another firebomb attack in Calderwood.
Police say enquiries into the Deep Dale incident are ongoing and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "At around 12.10am on Friday, January 13, police were called to a report of a fire at Deep Dale, East Kilbride.
"Officers attended and enquiries are ongoing into this wilful fireraising. Anyone with information should contact 101 with reference 0018 of 13 January."
