A thief tried to evade police by leaping from a stolen car while it was still moving but was tracked down when officers spotted his footprints in the snow.
Daniel Henderson, 21, of The Glebe, Halton Brook, Runcorn fled the black Ford Fiesta near the entry to Runcorn Town Park on Holt Lane, causing the hatchback to roll and hit a wall. The car had been reported stolen from a property in Frodsham at around 10.50pm the night before.
Cheshire Police said officers on regular patrol initially spotted the Fiesta travelling on Halton Brook Avenue in the early hours on Wednesday. They followed it onto West Lane and then onto Northway - close to Runcorn Police Station.
