Car smashes into sign on busy Scottish road as cops race to the incident

A car has ploughed into a street sign after a two car crash in a busy Fife road. Cops swooped onto the scene at Standing Stane Road, which links Kirkcaldy with Windygates on the outskirts of Methil, just before 3pm on Wednesday.

According to the Daily Record, two vehicles had been involved in the smash. However, the details on how it occurred have not yet been disclosed by police.

Cops partially closed the notorious A915 as they attended to the incident. An image that surfaced online showed one of the vehicles had ploughed into a road sign.

The turquoise vehicle was heavily damaged from the crash but the condition of the other vehicle, and the occupants of each, is still unknown.

Standing Stane Road is one of Fife's accident blackspots. The council sought to reduce the number of collisions on the five-and-a-half mile-long road earlier this year by introducing warning signs at its junctions.

A Police Scotland spokesperson was unable to provide details of any injuries.

They said: "Around 2.55pm, police were called to a report of a two-vehicle road crash on Standing Stane Road, Kirkcaldy.

"Officers attended to assist and the vehicles are being recovered."
