The bizarre scene of a car left dangling over a bridge saw a quick-thinking passenger dive in to the canal to avoid injury. The red Vauxhall Corsa was spotted barely hanging on the destroyed bridge on Langley Road, Wolverhampton in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The dramatic picture showed the vehicle, which had smashed the wall of the bridge and caused significant damage to the front of the car, dangling over the battered structure with only two wheels touching the ground, reports Wales Online.
The Vauxhall, which had two passengers inside, had both airbags deployed but somehow did not fall into the water with both people involved in the crash said to be without injury.
However local woman and narrow boat owner Stephanie Hardman revealed her surprise at seeing the precariously placed vehicle as she passed by under the bridge in her boat.
Police moved to close off the road to the public after being alerted at around 2am while specialist teams worked to recover the car from its position. One passenger was said to have been forced to dive in to the water below to escape the predicament.
Stephanie said: "They crashed at approximately 2am Saturday morning. Both occupants were fine, but the passenger opened the door and fell into the canal.
"That's what the police officer on the scene that I spoke to said. When I stepped out of the back of the boat I saw it and then walked closer to have a look."
