Drivers are being warned to make sure all four vehicle tyres match before hitting the road, or risk being slapped with fines and licence points. Changing the wheels at different times is very common, particularly if drivers suffer a puncture.
This can tempt motorists into picking the cheapest, easiest replacement. Paying for a new one, or a set of four, may seem like a nuisance but one expert has warned that mixing and matching - where motorists have different sorts of tyres on the same axle - could land them in trouble with the law.
According to Graham Conway, managing director at Select Car Leasing, drivers can be slapped with a £100 fine and three penalty points for making the error, reports the Express. All tyres look alike to the untrained eye, so it's understandable that some drivers may believe they can all function in sync as long as they're the right size.
