Firefighters used a high-powered rose and a breathing mask to tackle a dramatic car fire at a petrol station in Edinburgh on Wednesday.
Two crews were called to attend the fire at the Esso petrol station on Queensferry Road in the Ravelston area of the capital shortly after 8.30pm on March 22. There, the officers from Crewe Toll and Tollcross fire stations found a black SUV-type car well alight.
Dramatic images shared with the Record show the fire mercilessly consuming the car, as thick black smoke belches into the air. The images appear to have been taken from a passing car, shortly after the vehicle caught fire on the forecourt.
Following some merciless use of a hose reel jet, the fire was extinguished and the scene was made safe in less than 20 minutes. It is not known how the car caught fire.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We received a call at 8.36pm regarding a fire at a petrol station in Queensferry Road, Edinburgh. We mobilised two appliances, one from Crewe Hill and one from Tollcross.
"One private car was found alight at the entrance to the petrol station. Crews used a high-pressure hose reel jet and one breathing apparatus set.
"The fire was extinguished and our crews are clear of the scene. The stop came in at 8.55pm."
