Two women have died after a car crashed into the side of a hospital.
An unnamed woman, believed to be in her 60s, allegedly reversed into another car before hitting a pedestrian, a woman believed to be in her 40s, outside a multi-storey car park near Nepean Hospital at around 3.20pm local time on Thursday in Sydney, Australia.
Police said both the driver and the pedestrian were assessed by paramedics but were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the other car – a woman believed to be aged in her 30s – was treated by hospital staff for shock.
Police said a medical episode could be behind the incident but investigations are continuing.
"The driver and pedestrian were both assessed by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however they were pronounced dead at the scene," New South Wales Police said in a statement.
It continued: "The driver of the other car – a woman believed to be aged in her 30s – was treated by hospital staff for shock."
In a statement, Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District urged people to avoid the area near the multi-storey car park on Parker Street.
A statement read: “Emergency services are responding to an incident near Nepean Hospital’s multi-storey car park on Parker Street.
“Patients, visitors and staff are being asked to avoid the area. Nepean Hospital and its emergency department remain open.
“Gate 2 entry to campus is closed. Please use alternative entries. Please allow extra time if you are visiting the hospital and thank you for your understanding.”
